Her new songs address serious themes like women’s shame about their bodies and the need for open communication in relationships; her often physically distorting costumes show that the pursuit of the feminine ideal is far from natural. Her commitment to confront the changing notion of what’s “natural” puts Gaga on the same road traveled by artists she admires, such as the photographer Cindy Sherman. Her frank talk about how female artists aren’t expected to write their own songs or about how young women are afraid to ask for what they need from their sexual partners inches her toward a new articulation of feminism.

“If you ask somebody where you see sexism in your life, all they think of is the old stuff,” said Nona Willis Aronowitz, co-author of the new book “Girldrive: Criss-Crossing America, Redefining Feminism,” by phone. “Equal pay, that’s not really on their radar. Domestic violence and rape aren’t necessarily in the forefront. But you ask about double standards or restrictive gender roles, they don’t think of that as sexism; they think of that as the way it is. That’s kind of like what Lady Gaga is talking about.”

Gaga does view her music as a liberating force. “When I say to you, there is nobody like me, and there never was, that is a statement I want every woman to feel and make about themselves,” she continued. “I don’t make it as a defense. I make it as, OK, guys, it’s been two years, and I’ve made a lot of music, and I know my greatness is individual. And I want every woman to be able to say that.”

Don’t. Well, I mean, do as you please, but if you’re a gay rights champion, then it would behoove you not to support these homophobic d-bags.

Salvation Army has been headlining gay news sites for years ‘round about this time, and for good reason, discriminating against gays in hiring, urging homos to “embrace celibacy as a way of life”, lobbying against the repeal of anti-gay laws, and rescinding domestic benefits for gay employees.

Cleaning out my tights drawer. Of course, right?

After throwing out the pairs with ungodly runs, I have:

12 pairs of solid black tights
4 pairs of black fishnet tights
4 pairs of chocolate brown tights (1 fishnet)
3 pairs of nude brown fishnets (1 large weave, 2 extra small weave)
4 charcoal grey
other assorted pairs in stripes, bright colors, patterns, lace styles

Let it never be said I’m not devoted to my look. I’ve been wearing tights almost every day since I was about 11. And before that, really I just took a few years off to wear kid clothes, but I wore them all the time as a little baby/kid too.

To be honest, I thought I had some more. I was actually looking for a specific pair of thigh highs, and nothing. But I’m stoked on how easy it is to see what I need in that drawer now!

When I find a look, I stick with it, ok?

Ok. Stop it. All of you. Stop remaking movies. Stop remaking good foreign films to suit lame American audiences who refuse to read subtitles. Stop remaking classic American films because the youth doesn’t understand why there is no color or nudity.

Now, the picture above creates a new issue. DO NOT REMAKE A THREE YEAR OLD FILM, THAT IS ALREADY IN ENGLISH. Sure, it was technically a British film; and yeah, it was played mostly at art house theaters and didn’t make money. But you know what? Sometimes the best films out there aren’t seen, or don’t make money. They are the ones I still try to call art versus just being a product.

Death at a Funeral (2007) was art. Death At a Funeral (2010) will be a shitty, knock-off product.

ETA: I’m glad to see that Loretta Devine is FINALLY GETTING THE FIRST BILLING SHE DESERVES.

I’m not kidding. I want to see this. And part of me wonders if people (not anyone who posted this here, I just mean in general) assume it’s going to be a bad movie because it’s a “black” movie. I’m sick of remakes too, honestly. Like super sick of them. But I think it’s a lot more interesting to take them and make them for a different demographic, and mine new territories than to literally remake them, just shinier and updated. I’m stoked on this. Plus, I like a lot of the people in it.
